Coffee is often framed through labels — organic, fair trade, sustainable.

At Pathways, we take a different approach.

Rather than starting with claims, we focus on what sits behind the coffee — how it is grown, how it moves through the supply chain, and how it is ultimately presented.

Origin

Every journey begins at origin.

We prioritise coffees that can be traced to a specific farm or estate — where there is clarity around how the coffee is grown and processed.

Journey No. 01 comes from Ratnagiri Estate in India, known for its precision in cultivation and extended fermentation methods.

What happens at origin is not abstract — it is expressed directly in the cup.

Traceability

Coffee rarely moves directly from farm to cup.

It passes through exporters and importers — stages where detail can either be preserved or lost.

We focus on coffees where that detail remains intact — where the farm, process, and lot are clearly identifiable.

This allows each journey to be presented with specificity, not approximation.

Roasting

Roasting is where the coffee is translated into its final form.

At this stage, the character developed at origin can either be preserved or obscured.

We work through small-batch roasting — allowing for precise control over how each coffee is developed, with the aim of maintaining clarity rather than imposing a fixed profile.

This is particularly important for coffees shaped by specific processing methods, where small variations in roasting can alter the outcome in the cup.

The objective is not to standardise the coffee, but to carry forward what has already been established at origin.

Packaging

Packaging is a practical part of the chain.

We use LDPE4 recyclable pouches—a flexible plastic that can be recycled in the UK through appropriate collection systems.

The decision balances product integrity, shelf life, and recyclability.

It is a functional choice, not a symbolic one.

Sustainability in coffee is often reduced to labels.

For Pathways, it begins with clarity—knowing where the coffee comes from, how it is handled, and how it is brought to life.

That is the standard we work to.
